B12 + Lipotropic (MIC) Injections in Savannah, Pooler & Hinesville
B12 and lipotropic (MIC) injections are a well-established adjunctive component of physician-supervised weight loss programs. At Scale Solutions, these injections are offered as a supportive element within a comprehensive medical weight management plan—not as a standalone weight loss treatment. They are administered in-office at all three of our Georgia locations: Savannah, Pooler, and Hinesville, under the oversight of Donald L. Gates, MD.
This page explains what B12 injections are, what MIC (Methionine, Inositol, Choline) formulations contain, what the “Super Lipotropic” formulation adds, who may benefit from them, how they fit within a comprehensive program, and what to expect in terms of frequency and cost. What Is Vitamin B12 and Why Is It Included?
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is a water-soluble essential vitamin that plays critical roles in DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, neurological function, and energy metabolism. B12 is found naturally in animal-based foods—meat, fish, dairy, eggs—and is absorbed via a complex process in the gastrointestinal tract that requires a protein called intrinsic factor, produced by the stomach lining.
B12 deficiency is more common than many people realize, particularly in:
- Adults over 50 (who often have reduced intrinsic factor production)
- Individuals following vegetarian or vegan diets
- Patients taking metformin for type 2 diabetes (metformin impairs B12 absorption)
- People with gastrointestinal conditions affecting absorption (celiac disease, atrophic gastritis, Crohn’s disease, prior bariatric surgery)
Even subclinical B12 insufficiency can contribute to fatigue, cognitive fogginess, and reduced energy—symptoms that can undermine the motivation and physical capacity needed to engage in the lifestyle changes that support weight management. B12 injections bypass GI absorption entirely, delivering the vitamin directly into muscle tissue for rapid systemic availability.
Important note: B12 injections do not directly cause weight loss. They address nutritional status, and in patients with genuine insufficiency, correcting B12 levels may restore energy and metabolic function that supports participation in a broader weight loss program.
What Is a Lipotropic (MIC) Injection?
Lipotropic injections combine several compounds that support fat metabolism, liver function, and the movement of fat through and out of the liver. The core formulation is referred to as “MIC,” which stands for:
Methionine
Methionine is an essential amino acid—the body cannot synthesize it and must obtain it from dietary protein. It plays a role in liver detoxification, the synthesis of carnitine (which is involved in fat transport), and the methylation pathways important for cellular function. Methionine supports the removal of fat from the liver and may help prevent fat accumulation (hepatic steatosis), which is common in patients with obesity and insulin resistance.
Inositol
Inositol is a naturally occurring carbocyclic compound found in cell membranes and involved in insulin signal transduction and lipid metabolism. It assists in the breakdown and redistribution of body fats and supports normal liver function. Some research has explored inositol’s role in insulin sensitivity, though the clinical evidence base is still developing.
Choline
Choline is an essential nutrient required for the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, a key structural component of cell membranes. It plays a central role in lipid transport—specifically, in the packaging and export of fat from the liver into the bloodstream as very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL). Without adequate choline, fat can accumulate in the liver. Choline is often deficient in patients on calorie-restricted diets, which is part of why it is included in lipotropic formulations.
What the “Super Lipotropic” Formulation Adds
Scale Solutions also offers a Super Lipotropic formulation that expands on the standard MIC + B12 combination by adding a broader B-complex—typically including B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacinamide), B5 (pantothenic acid), and B6 (pyridoxine). Each of these B vitamins plays a distinct role in cellular energy metabolism (particularly in the Krebs cycle and electron transport chain) and cofactor functions that support normal metabolic activity.
For a detailed breakdown of the Super Lipotropic formulation, administration, and specific benefits, see our Super Lipotropic Injections page.
Who May Benefit from Lipotropic Injections?
Lipotropic injections are not appropriate or necessary for every patient in a weight loss program. They tend to be most useful for:
- Patients with documented or suspected B12 insufficiency who would benefit from bypassing GI absorption
- Patients on calorie-restricted diets who may not be obtaining adequate amounts of choline and methionine from food
- Patients who report fatigue that may have a nutritional component
- Patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD/MASLD) who may benefit from lipotropic liver support as an adjunct to their primary treatment
- Patients who are also using GLP-1 medications and experiencing significant reduction in food intake (and thus reduced micronutrient intake from diet)
Dr. Gates evaluates lipotropic injection candidacy individually. They are offered as one component of a comprehensive program, not as a default addition for every patient.
How Lipotropic Injections Fit Within a Medical Weight Loss Program
These injections are not a standalone weight loss treatment. No clinical evidence supports the idea that MIC injections alone produce meaningful, sustained weight reduction in the absence of other interventions. Scale Solutions offers them as an adjunctive support within a comprehensive physician-supervised program that may also include GLP-1 medications, dietary guidance, and regular physician monitoring.
Within that context, they can provide real value: supporting nutritional status during caloric restriction, helping maintain liver health during active fat mobilization, and addressing energy metabolism at the cellular level. They are a tool in a broader clinical toolkit, not a shortcut.
Frequency and Administration
Lipotropic injections are administered in-office by our clinical staff. Typical frequency ranges from once per week to twice per week depending on the formulation used and the patient’s individual program. Injections are given intramuscularly, typically into the deltoid (upper arm) or gluteal muscle. The procedure takes only a few minutes and is well-tolerated by most patients.
Dr. Gates determines the appropriate injection frequency as part of your overall treatment plan. You will not be administering these injections at home—they are in-office treatments that provide a built-in checkpoint for monitoring your progress.
Cost
Pricing for B12 and lipotropic injections at Scale Solutions is straightforward and transparent. Individual injection pricing and package options are available on our Pricing page. Lipotropic injections are generally not covered by insurance and are paid for on a fee-for-service basis. Costs are modest relative to prescription medication programs and are often incorporated into a comprehensive program fee structure. Our staff will explain your options at the time of your consultation or intake appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions — B12 & Lipotropic Injections
Can I get lipotropic injections without enrolling in a full weight loss program?
At Scale Solutions, lipotropic and B12 injections are offered as part of a physician-supervised weight management program. Because these are medical injections administered in a clinical setting by a physician-led practice, a clinical evaluation by Dr. Gates is required before beginning. This ensures that the treatment is appropriate for your individual health status and that any contraindications are identified. The evaluation also allows Dr. Gates to determine whether injections alone, or injections as part of a broader program, are most appropriate for your situation. Call (912) 352-7546 to discuss your options.
Are lipotropic injections the same as “fat-burning shots”?
Marketing language around lipotropic injections sometimes uses terms like “fat-burning shots,” which can create unrealistic expectations. Lipotropic injections support fat metabolism and liver function at the biochemical level; they do not directly “burn fat” in the same sense as thermogenic drugs, and they should not be expected to produce weight loss on their own. At Scale Solutions, we present these treatments accurately: they are adjunctive nutritional and metabolic support tools, best used within a broader physician-supervised program that addresses overall caloric balance and, where appropriate, includes pharmacotherapy.
Are B12 injections better than B12 supplements taken by mouth?
For patients with normal GI function and no absorption issues, high-dose oral B12 can be effective. For patients with conditions that impair B12 absorption—including those on metformin, those who have had bariatric surgery, or those with atrophic gastritis—intramuscular injection bypasses the absorption problem entirely and is generally more reliable. Dr. Gates will consider your specific situation when recommending whether injections are a better choice than oral supplementation for you.
Are there any contraindications to lipotropic MIC injections?
Lipotropic injections are generally well-tolerated with a favorable safety profile. However, patients with known sulfa drug allergy should discuss this with Dr. Gates before receiving MIC formulations, as methionine-containing compounds may not be appropriate. Patients with certain metabolic disorders, severe kidney or liver disease, or active infections should also be evaluated individually. All of these considerations are reviewed during your clinical intake. Self-administering or obtaining lipotropic injections from non-medical sources is not advisable; these are clinical-grade preparations that warrant physician oversight.
